On A Whim, literally

“Sunbathing” by Patty DelValle

On a Whim—Literally

I’m busy. I’ve set out to create a bridal collection that I’m really excited about. It’s wedding season, and I’d planned to release the collection by June. Which, realistically, means I should be wrapping up the paintings now.

But right in the middle of working out the color stories—

I interrupted myself.

A three-piece mini collection.

On a whim.

Literally.

I was deep into purples—testing out palettes, playing with color, building layers—and then, as often happens in the studio, something unexpected started to take shape. It was light. It was fun. It was smiling at me, and I smiled back.

I knew it would throw off my timeline, but… it’s my timeline to mess with. So why not?

I gave myself permission to follow the inspiration.

On a Whim” is a playful, simple mini collection of three pieces:

“Say Cheese"– a 20x24 canvas

Attention Ladies – 11x14 on paper

Sunbathing – 8x8 on paper

They’re leggy, loose purple florals with metallic gold centers that, to me, look like they’re posing for a photo—totally unbothered, totally themselves. There’s something about them that feels like joy.

This little series wasn’t planned, but I’m so glad it showed up. Sometimes the best things happen when you step off the path for a bit.

“Say Cheese” is available now at Menagerie on Main in Canton, GA.

“Attention Ladies” and “Sunbathing” are available now in shop.
